Curly Haired Girly: Part 2
Relaxer, yes that was the magic potion that straightened her daughter’s hair. I needed that. My mother was at work that day and the lady (Let’s just call her Aunt May*) had some of her daughter’s relaxer left. Surely it won’t do damage right?
I asked Aunt May* if she could relax my hair. She said: “No, you have to ask my mother.”
I begged. I pleaded. I said my mother wouldn’t mind. I asked her really nicely. She caved.
My mother was livid. She blamed Aunt May*. I didn’t stick up for Aunt May.* I let her take blame for years until I was older and I told my mother that I was the one that pleaded. My mother still says that an 8 year old cannot make decisions like that, but an 8 year old could talk someone into something and I did.
I wouldn’t know the damage it did till later on and now I understand my mother’s frustration. My hair is damaged… I once cut it all off in the hopes of my old hair growing back, but that did not happen. My hair is still not what it use to be. Soft and curly.
I now have to depend on a lot of product, following hair care tips from Pinterest and yes, an occasional jar of relaxer. My hair gets quite unmanageable when not relaxed. I would try to quit relaxer, but then after a while, I go buy some. I have not relaxed my hair for about 3 months now.
I am trying to get off it and see if I can repair my hair.
I also cannot blame it all on relaxer. I dyed my hair a lot and I use heat on it very often. I have researched so many hair care tips. They only work for a while. Maybe one day my hair will be awesome, until then I will keep trying to reverse the damage.
I love my hair curly and straight now. I embrace the versatility of my hair.
If this is/was you, let me know. Please share your hair tips.
xoxo CelesteDQ
